Black Cave Recordings offers studio-quality location recording in Edinburgh and the UK for your project wherever you’d wish to record in and around Edinburgh and the UK. If you have a regular practice space for you or your band, have a specific location in mind where you’d like any sound to be recorded, or want to record in the comfort of your own home, our mobile unit can be taken to almost all places. We can also advise you on spaces you can hire out for any project. We offer packages where you record certain parts in a studio, and finish other parts in the relaxed atmosphere of our studio, a practice space of your choice, or your own home, saving you money. Mixing and mastering can also be included in your project.
How long does it take?
The time it takes depends on how many individuals are being recorded. A typical session can be between 4 and 8 hours long. Set-up time also needs to be taken into account.
We’ve worked on events at venues such as The Queens Hall, Edinburgh Fringe, Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh Art College, St John’s Church, Surgeon’s Hall and Summerhall. Many of these were live performances. They were captured and mixed with a live audience in the room and streamers online (so they were hybrid events). We’ve also worked in the comfort of the artist’s own house/flat. We can record at band rehearsal rooms, and many other locations.
What do I receive?
You will receive downloadable edited, mixed and mastered files in high quality wav file format. If you require unmixed stems, we can happily supply those too.
Other past projects include songs that have charted, punk, rock, funk, pop, death & black metal and reggae bands, ADR dubbing; hip-hop, rap, grime vocalists, audiobooks, online courses and other voice-over and podcasts.
What should I prepare?
Rehearse the material that will be recorded regularly before the session. If you’re in a band and would like to record to a click track, use one during your rehearsals. Think about how you’d like to set up, and whether the location you have chosen is a good environment to record in and has minimal external and internal noise (such as fans, passing cars, other people moving around in the building or other distractions).
We’ve worked with: BBC, Disney, Pixar, Alcatrazz, Blumhouse, Cartoon Network, Vodafone, Universal, Hachette Book Group & Orbit, and Glenmorangie Whisky.

HYBRID EVENTS
We can record live stream an event with audio and visuals too. Great sounding mixes for people present at the event and those online can also be provided. We work with great video production businesses in Edinburgh (which we can hook you up with!). Combining a live, exciting element with a watch-live or watch-again feature can elevate your project.
Every project is different, so we’d be happy to provide a tailored quotation:
